Healthcare & Hygiene

Commerical Healthcare & Hygiene

Healthcare and hygiene service companies can now offer their customers a recycling solution for absorbent hygiene products – AHPs.

Knowaste is the UK’s only specialist recycling facility for AHPs which include adult incontinence pants and pads, disposable nappies/diapers, bed liners, wipes and feminine hygiene products. These wastes are generated in high numbers in elderly care homes and units, child nurseries and maternity units, disability and mental health units as well as ‘away from home’ use in retail, leisure and work. Only Knowaste treats these wastes to reclaim plastics and fibres for reuse in new products.

Choose the greener option with Knowaste

Knowaste estimates that these trade and healthcare wastes amount to 250,000 tonnes per annum.

Knowaste are proud to be working with the UK’s leading hygiene, healthcare and sanitary waste management companies to recycle their 18 01 04 or 20 01 99 ‘tiger bag’ waste stream. This waste is not classed as clinical waste whose collection and disposal is subject to special requirements in order to prevent infection. It is classed as non-infectious offensive waste (EWC code 18 01 04 or 20 01 99) and a duty of care governs the handling and management of this waste.

Disposable nappies/diapers, adult incontinence and feminine hygiene products are often source separated into sanitary, hygiene and nappy/diaper bins on site – in care homes, nurseries, hospitals, washrooms and baby-change rooms – making diversion from landfill logistically possible without major changes to infrastructure.

No wonder the list of healthcare and hygiene service companies embracing the Knowaste recycling opportunity grows and more of your customers enjoy the sustainable disposal option that avoids long term increases in landfill taxes.
