Established in 1989 and operating on an international scale, Knowaste is a pioneer in the development and implementation of innovative environmental solutions for the world’s difficult waste issues, including recycling disposable nappies, bedliners and incontinence products into sanitised and reusable paper pulp and plastic products.
Today, Knowaste is at the forefront of meeting the global environmental challenge of nappy and/or incontinence product waste as populations continue around the world to rise and age.
A main focus for the company is providing an environmentally friendly and cost effective solution for disposable nappies and adult incontinence products used every day across the world. The challenge is phenomenal: the global population is set to rise by 8 billion by 2025, and each baby born can generate approximately one ton of nappy waste by the time they are potty trained.
The Knowaste Nappy Processor (KNP) enables 98% of the disposable nappy and/or adult incontinence product to be removed from the waste stream and recycled into a variety of products, from shoe insoles and wallpaper to plastic wood and thickener for industrial products.
The company has established 65% market share in the Netherlands, processing up to 70,000 tons of nappies and hygiene products. In the last year the company has gone from handling initially nothing to 8,000 tonnes in Germany. In 2007 the company launched into the UK where its solution will particularly help local authorities meet their landfill diversion targets and avoid landfill taxes.
